36-Hour Training: Core Principles
With Christopher Golden
Program Description:
In this 36-hour training we will explore the art of teaching through the lens of practice, movement, and meditation, engaging in deep conversation around the art of sequencing, hands-on adjustments, and the voice of the teacher. While this program is geared towards teachers, any and all eager students are welcome to use this as an opportunity to explore their personal practice and deepen their connection to self, to movement, and to breath.
This program is structured as six six-hour Sunday sessions across three month. You can sign up for the whole program or participate on individual days. Each day will be two parts: morning practice and afternoon practicum. The first three hours of the day will include 45 minutes of meditation followed by 2 hours of movement. The afternoon practicum will focus on the art of creative sequencing (teaching to the moment), adjustments that correspond to the themes and poses of the day, as well as what it means to have a clear point of view as a teacher.
We will also discuss the implications of teaching modern postural yoga to the general public—and the inherent power dynamics that exist in the classroom—and in working one-on-one with students. We will consider alignment cues as suggestions to create a container for students to feel that they have choices and a sense of agency in how to be in their body. We’ll ask questions like: Why teach breathwork? How does our own personal practice inform and shift what we teach? Why meditate? And more!
My goal of this training is to meditate, move, and be in conversation about the how’s and why’s of teaching. We’ll revel in the joy of coming together for practice, and we’ll employ our sense of curiosity and playfulness that is critical to carving out new perspectives. Diverse and individual perspectives are essential to the evolution of teaching.
